Equine Development
Open to students currently in grades 10-12
This exciting course combines leadership with horsemanship. This program is an engaging and dynamic opportunity for students to learn more about themselves, equine practices, the Alberta landscape and ecology, and local history through applied horsemanship and riding, leadership skill development and team building.
This four-day program provides students with practical learning opportunities in horsemanship and riding skills, horse behaviour and herd dynamics, equine care practices, safety awareness and hazard mitigation, ethics and ecological impact of Leave No Trace, and the historical significance of horses in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
All learning activities and after-learning times are supervised by male and female YMCA staff and teachers.
Fees include activities, shared accommodations (in bunk beds) and meals.

Western Horseback Riding Lessons
Open to children ages 8-12Y
Learn more about horses and riding in a safe, relaxed, fun-filled atmosphere! Instruction includes safe practices around horses, grooming (brushing, picking hooves), saddling, and basic western riding skills (in the arena and on trail). Time will be split between horsemanship and riding. This introductory series is designed to broaden horse skills and knowledge while increasing comfort and confidence working with and riding horses.

Big Dudes & Little Dudes
Open to children ages 5-7Y
(Participants are accompanied by parent or guardian)
This program is a safe, fun and interactive introduction to horses and riding. Your child will build comfort and confidence with horses both on and off the horse with the help of an inspiring cowboy or cowgirl. Participants will learn basic riding skills and how to successfully lead their horse while riding and while on the ground. No previous horse experience necessary.
