Yoga Active and Passive at the Calgary YMCA

The world of Yoga can be a mysterious one, so many different types and styles, what is best for you?

At the Calgary YMCA, we’ve tried to simplify the options that are available to make your life less complicated. Firstly decide if you want to do a more active or more relaxing type of yoga.

Yoga Active – Is an invigorating yoga class that leads you through poses, sequences and breath work that will challenge your strength, flexibility and focus helping you grow in
mind, body and spirit.

This class includes forms of yoga such as Ashtanga, Power, Hatha, Yin
Yang. Best for people looking for a workout from their yoga class.

Yoga Passive – Helps you tune into your true self and find peace and
belonging within. This yoga class will guide you through slow poses and breath
work as well as meditation in a serene atmosphere intended to create calm,
restore.

This type of yoga includes styles such as restorative and gentle.

If you have attended classes in past and have a preferred instructor or time, chances are that class is still there for you, it just has a different name. If you have participated in yoga classes in previous sessions at the YMCA and are looking to move on, please look for a level 2 yoga class at your preferred branch.

Mondays – Totally TRX 9:30-10:30am, Outdoor Bootcamp 12:05-12:50pm, Pilates Mat 1 –  12:00-1:00pm, Yoga Level 2 5:15-6:30pm, Fusion 6:35-7:35pm, Totally TRX 7:00-8:00pm or Yoga for Runners 7:40-8:40pm

Tuesdays – Tai Chi Level 1 12:05-12:50pm, TRX Cycle 12:05-12:50pm, Yoga Active 5:15-6:15, TRX Bootcamp 5:30-6:30pm, Advanced Resistance Training 7:00-8:00pm

Wednesdays – Yoga Active 12:00-1:00pm, Outdoor Bootcamp 12:05-122:50pm, Zumba Gold 1:15-2:15pm, Metabolic Conditioning 5:10-6:10pm, Yoga Passive 5:15-6:16pm, Pilates Infused Core 6:15-7:15pm, Zumba 6:30-7:30pm, Women’s Resistance Training 6:30-7:30pm

Thursdays – Yoga Active 6:00-7:00am, Tai Chi Level 2 12:05-12:50pm, Boxer’s Workout 5:15-6:45pm

Fridays – TRX Bootcamp 10:00-11:00am, Yoga Passive 12:00-1:00pm, Intro to Olympic and Platform lifting 12:00-1:00pm, Kettlebell Bootcamp 12:00-1:00pm.

October 28th – December 15th (exceptions Outdoor Bootcamp 3 weeks,

Intro to Olympic Lifting 4 weeks only)

Yoga for Runners – NOT Just for Runners!

Interested in taking a yoga class, but not a runner?  That’s ok!!  Although this yoga program is designed to meet the needs of runners and will address specific areas of tightness and muscle imbalances, anyone can benefit from this class!

Yoga will improve your flexibility, core strength, balance and endurance. Discover how yoga will benefit you both physically and mentally.
